Saudi Arabia is a first-to-file jurisdiction: whoever registers a mark with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) first generally owns it, regardless of who used it first abroad. For a brand entering the Kingdom, filing early is not a formality — it is the difference between owning your name and negotiating for it later. We handle search, filing, prosecution, and enforcement guidance end to end.
What's Included
- Clearance search of the SAIP register for identical and confusingly similar marks
- Filing strategy: which marks (wordmark, logo, Arabic transliteration) and which Nice classes
- SAIP application filing and prosecution, including responses to examiner objections
- Monitoring through publication and the opposition window
- Registration certificate — protection runs 10 years from filing and is renewable
- Post-registration guidance: renewals, watch notices, and enforcement options against infringers
The Process
- Search and strategy. Clearance search plus a class and filing plan you approve before spending on fees (3–5 business days).
- Filing. Application submitted to SAIP once the power of attorney is in place (1–2 business days).
- Examination. SAIP reviews the mark; we answer any objections (typically 1–3 months, varies).
- Publication. Accepted marks are published with a 15-day opposition window; we monitor and respond if anyone objects.
- Registration. After final fees, the certificate issues — typically up to 3 months end to end when unopposed, varies.
Documents You'll Need
- Applicant details: CR for companies, or passport for individual applicants
- The mark itself: wordmark text and/or logo files in high resolution
- List of goods and services to cover, which we map to Nice classes
- Power of attorney (legalized for foreign applicants)
- Priority documents if you claim priority from an earlier foreign filing
Start with a free consultation: we will run a preliminary check on your name in the SAIP register and tell you honestly whether to file as-is, adjust, or cover the Arabic version too. Keep in mind a registration does not cover everything: trade names, domains, and copyright are separate regimes, and a complete brand-protection plan usually touches all three — we scope that with you. For larger portfolios, we stagger filings so renewal dates consolidate into a single annual cycle.
